Our campaign began in January 2018, it was our hope to bring a monthly street market festival to the streets of Dumfries on the 2nd Saturday of the month with the support of our community. We hoped our vision would play a part in the regeneration of Dumfries town centre. Our vision for Dumfries Market Festival is a monthly community event and curated makers market that includes creatives, artists, designers, craftsmen, independent businesses plus artisan food and beverage producers, with an emphasis on quality, regional and seasonal produce. Its much more than a market though, we will transform the town centre into a desination event for all the comunity. It will have the feel of a festival in a day and include music, performances, dance, street theatre, street art, hands on workshops and experiences.
Dumfries Market Festival will be a destination event, a unique and interesting experience to promote a sense of community pride and social interaction. We plan to create an attractive bustling town centre, brimming with character, vitality and creativity. A place that provides both the stall holders and visitors a truly unique experience and engage the public beyond simply just passively buying something at the market.
We feel that we can work together with existing retailers, hospitality businesses, accommodation providers and traders to the mutual benefit of all. We would love to support and coordinate fringe events on market days to promote other local businesses within the town. We envisage that a market of this type would bring locals back to the town centre, many visitors to the area and in turn, much needed revenue to the local economy. It would also be a welcome addition to the regeneration plans for Dumfries Town Centre and a massive contribution to the community of Dumfries.
Would you love to get involved, interested in leading a workshop, collaborating, volunteering, sponsoring, or have another wonderful idea, we'd love to hear about it!

After almost 2 years of campaigning and lots of community engagement, The Guild (Dumfries) CIC have finally been given the go-ahead for our longed for monthly street market festival. Our perseverance and determination has paid off, we are absolutely overjoyed that we can finally start making plans and make it happen! We will launch Dumfries Market Festival on Saturday 14th March 2020, and this will continue on the second Saturday of each month through to November. It promises to not only be a curated market selling beautifully crafted products from local artists, makers and producers, but there will be whole host of activities, experiences and entertainment to bring a festival atmosphere to the town centre each month.
We will create a micro festival in one day, making Dumfries a destination for the community and visitors to enjoy. Entertainment, music, street theatre, hands on workshops and demonstrations will add to the festival atmosphere and bring a real sense of pride back to our town centre. We are absolutely elated with the council’s decision to grant us the go-ahead and would like to thank the public for their support and encouragement. This is just the beginning!
