Ukefrolics

PLAINSTANES

Some members of Ukefrolics used to attend (and some still do) ukulele classes in Dumfries but did not do anything outside this environment. The group was originally formed by Annemieke and a colleague, after mentioning their idea to other class members who were enthusiastic and willing to give it a try.

In order to look and be different from the ordinary "T-Shirt" wearing and George Formby style of music, Ukefrolics decided to wear black basic clothing with multi-coloured waistcoats. Their repertoire of music varies from songs of the 1930's to near present day,  in order to please and suit our audiences.

Ukuleles come in various sizes producing  different sounds and tones, with a banjolele, guitar bass player and two percussionists making up the group of musicians. They have weekly practice sessions in Kirkcudbright, although some group members travel from Moniaive, Southerness and Dumfries to rehearse in the community centre.
