Book Donations Needed

Here at The Guild Dumfries we need your help! We are looking for children's book donations for our Santa’s Grotto at the Dumfries Christmas Festival & Lights Switch On this year. With a strong ethos of reducing waste, sustainability and promoting a circular economy, combined with the fact that Dumfries is the home of the National Centre for Children’s Literature at Moat Brae, we feel it makes sense to encourage recycling and reading from an early age, and that Dumfries should champion this.

So what better way to do this by giving a gift of a preloved book at our grotto rather than us buying more plastic tat to add to landfill!
We are looking for donations of good condition, preloved childrens books. Santa will then distribute these from his grotto, beside the fountain on the High Street on the 1st December at our Christmas Festival. If your child has outgrown a much loved story and you’d like to pass it on, then all you have to do is drop them off. We've organised our collection points throughout the town at Boots in Dumfries High St, Tesco Extra at Cuckoo Bridge, Morrisons and of course, Moat Brae.

It would be super if these could be wrapped too please, we'd encourage you to use recycled and repurposed paper.  To help Santa choose the right book from his sack, add a tag that gives us an idea of what age range the book is suitable for.
Any left over books will be donated to First Base and Dumfries and Stewartry Women’s Aid. Please share to help us spread the word.
